Dr. Konrath has included this photo gallery in this website because of the large amount of interest his quest for the Seven Summits has generated. The Seven Summits are the tallest mountains on each continent. This mountaineering challenge was first proposed by American Dick Bass in 1980. As of December, 2008, only 229 people have been able to successfully climb all of these peaks. Dr. Konrath completed the Seven Summits, climbing Mount Kosziuscko in Australia, on December 28th, 2008. He was able to complete the most challenging, Mount Everest, on May 24th, 2008.

Each of these mountains offers different challenges. Extreme weather, high altitude, remote locations, and risk of injury and death vary between mountains. Often the greatest challenge is staying focused in an unpleasant and dangerous environment for weeks or months at a time. All of the Seven Summits share the common denominator of visiting exciting places and meeting people from all over the world.
